Ambemohar, short grain of rice grown popularly in state of Maharashtra is known for its quick-cooking properties. It is a low yielding rice (1.9 ton/ha).The grains are short (5.5 mm) and wide (2.2 mm) compared to the well-known basmati rice. Both varieties have similar degree of fragrance. The variety is therefore included in the class of Aromatic rice such as Basmati.

Ambemohar rice, received its name from the sweet smell of the rice when cooked, the scent permeates the house. Ambe means mango, mohar means flowers. The rice is a low yielding type and is short in length and round; it has rapid cooking characteristics.

Ambemohar rice is grown in the foothills of Western India, in the state of Maharashtra.
